Love Lives Here

"It was a magical night"....."the wedding was flawless"....."Everything was perfect." Pardon us while we burst with pride, but we love it when we hear from happy Seattle brides and grooms (and their grateful parents) who've tied the knot on our Puget Sound shores.

What makes them write such glowing testimonials about a Seattle wedding? We think it's the ease of planning a local wedding that feels like a destination wedding in every imaginable way. From the ferry ride to the grounds (six acres ablaze in fall color) to 1,000 feet of private no bank waterfront, Kiana Lodge feels a world away.

Of course reminders of our proximity to Seattle are plenty. Just taste our award-winning Kiana Signature Salmon, Dungeness Crab Cakes and wines from Washington State winery Hogue Cellars.

A Historic Setting for Weddings

Few Seattle weddings settings can match the history and romance of Kiana Lodge. Built in the 1930s, it was originally called the Edgewater Beach and Country Club, a scenic summer escape for well-heeled Seattle area residents.

Boarding the famed Puget Sound "Mosquito Fleet" passenger steamers, they'd make the short trip to our sandy shores for games, dancing in the rustic lodge and canoe jousting in the saltwater lagoon.

The lodge's history, though, was more than fun and games. During World War II, it served as housing for the 14th Coast Artillery. By the mid-1940s, a private owner – no doubt beguiled by the setting's fragrant gardens and deep-water dock -- purchased the property and renamed it Kiana.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Can you imagine a more beautiful Seattle wedding setting for a romance written in the stars?

Picture Perfect

When it's time to choose a beautiful backdrop for the first photo of the bride and groom, prime locations around Kiana Lodge abound and, naturally, given our popularity as a Seattle wedding location, most of the settings reflect the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

One of our favorite scenic spots is the large piece of weathered driftwood on the beach. The lodge's rustic beams and tangled vines create another picturesque setting for treasured wedding photos.

From early spring to late fall, Kiana Lodge's manicured gardens are a sea of eye-popping color. Roses, begonias, lilies and other colorful blooms line our 1,000-foot private no bank waterfront, forming a natural aisle of subtle shades.

No setting however, here or elsewhere, will be able to compare to the radiance of your wedding day smile.

Food for Thought

It's hard to imagine a Seattle wedding reception without a menu showcasing fresh salmon. After all, the world-famous Pikes Place Fish Market – home of local fishmongers happily tossing fish from end to end – is just minutes from this popular Seattle wedding location.

Hands down, fresh Kiana Signature Salmon with herbs is a favorite, say our catering experts, but for those guests not fond of fish, Kiana offers up plenty of sublime substitutions, including Rosemary Roast of Lamb, Ginger Beef and Chicken Marsala.

Eighteen side options include regional favorites like Oregon Wild Rice and comfort food classics (think creamy Mac & Cheese and Garlic Whipped Potatoes). Increasingly, brides and grooms are requesting a round of late night snacks...the kind of pub grub fare that hits the spot right around 10:00 pm.

Whether Kiana's culinary team is roasting a side of salmon or readying a batch of savory chicken wings, you can rest assured that the food served at your wedding will be as memorable as the day itself.
